Seriously people, enough with the wish lists! We can wait in anticipation for the line up, but all this band name spouting is really annoying…
Anyone got any other ideas about what bands might be shown in the video? Amy, why would they show Muse? They wouldn’t come two years in a row (can you say “boring”?). I also think it looks like Mike Dernt (the piano, used by Greenday’s back up artists possibly?)
Judy | Jan 12, 2009 | Reply
Actually judy, the reason they’d show muse is cos they need footage of what a great show it was last year. the bands in the vid have no relevance to the line-up. i guarantee you!

I agree - The more the anticipation the more the excitement.
And after 8 months of anticipation, it quickly turns to anger!
People need time to save cash for this, and a lot of us need to book off work for that weekend.
So its all great waiting - but Id rather have the results and date NOW!!
- Also def Linkin Park in the video - watched the live DVD last night!Everything points to them!

Hey there
Does anyone know where I can find the showdates for My Coke Fest 2009 ? In the Pretoria/ Jo’burg area
Julia Kruger | Jan 13, 2009 | Reply
Well I think Linkin Park could be the headliners. Personally I’m hoping for someone much bigger and older, but it’ll be cool. What I hate most about all the idiots still voting for bands is the dumbnuts voting for bands that’s not even currently touring! My Chemical Romance and KISS is off the road working on new albums and Linkin Park is not currently touring so don’t expect to see any of them. I might be wrong, but I doubt it.
I think the long wait for dates + band line-up is going to affect the ticket sales, so Big Concerts should seriously give us some details, even if it’s just the date. Cause I don’t know bout you guys but I enjoyed the past 3 Coke Fest’s so much, I’ll buy tickets without even knowing who’s playing. But the date is kinda important!

Just phoned Big Concerts and to quote. “No, My Coke Fest is not cancelled.”
and Iceman, get a life and learn to respect other people’s music tastes. For the record that article is a little old. They’ve been on hiatus for a while now and if you did your “research” properly you’d find out that they might be getting together again this year. Nothing confirmed yet.
aaand theres been an update on Facebook but Im not sure how reliable it is. It says that line-up will be released next Wednesday [21 Jan] throughout the day. We’ve already been told recently that the bands were supposed to announced before TODAY [15th]. I reckon they’r gona keep postponing release dates until a day or two before the event.

I’m agreeing with lot of people and at the same disagreeing. Everyone has their own taste in music (I didn’t enjoy Muse and Chris Cornell at all last year but their fans loved them) who are we to judge each other taste? We are all human and different music lovers. If there is band, like Nickelback, at MCF then go stand in line for beer or something if you don’t want to watch them.
Stop voting, it’s been closed…can you understand that?
I hope that the mothers at Big Concerts will release the line up as promised next week. Maybe they building up excitement which we are all stating above but shit it’s moerse build up. I hope they pull up their socks and give us a line up worth while

but this coasttocoast website’s given me some hope. if im using it right then kings of leon, killers, RHCP and foo fighters still have potential
and panic at the disco..hehe
as for this whole please stop voting thing - PLEASE stop voting people, if asking for results/a line-up is too much to ask do you REALLY think requesting bands at this point will get us ANYWHERE? didnt think so. please stop commenting with all this rubbish just for the sake of commenting. it’s a lot of extra scrolling space. especially all of you who think its helpful to write 100 lines of “BULLET!!!!!”

I was so psyched this morning when I thought I might finally be able to make up my mind about this concert… that’s all gone for a ball of shit.
Everyone has their own tastes in music. Personally, Nickelback were cool with “How you remind me”, “Too bad”… Their latest song is quite catchy, but in a poppy rock kind of way. Quite frankly, any band that comes up with lyrics like
“look at this photograph. Every time I do it makes me laugh. How did our eyes get so red? And what the hell is on Joey’s head?”
does not deserve to be called a rock band… just my opinion (that song annoys the shit out of me).
At the risk of pissing off LP fans… Once again, just my opinion, while Linkin Park aren’t bad I see them as being a rock band for posers. I’ve seen so many dumbasses that won’t listen to other rock bands or rock music in general, but act like they’re hard core ’cause they listen to LP.
But that’s my rant… keeps me from bitching about the lack of line up announcements!
Judy | Jan 15, 2009 | Reply
Well I consider myself a rock enthusiast not because I only listen to LP, but also to Bullet for my Valentine, Three Days Grace, Rise Against.
But Judy, I do agree with your statement. Many people consider themselves “Hardcore” because they know one or two popular songs from a few groups.

Oh and this piece of advice is a little overdue but I suggest that everyone just save up for golden circle tickets anyway, just in case one of your favourite bands is on the line-up. If they’r not you can buy standard tickets or whatever. Jus have the money just in case. Thats what I’ve done. And if the bands are REALLY shit and you don’t even wanna be there to hear them you’ve got some spending money!

I think its such a waste that there is a golden circle on a festival. Increase the average price of the tickets and have no golden cirle. Its such a waste of space. Last year in Joburg there was such a huge area of wasted space between the people in the golden circle and the rest of the crowd. I understand a golden circle area if its only one band playing, but at a festival…

Couple of interesting frames in the promo vid. There’s one where the guys face has been blacked out. If thats the case then it seems that they might’ve used actual clips of some of the bands that are playing. Im hoping so, cause theres a couple of frames of the back of chester bennington’s head (scar and earings give it away), close up of one of brad delson’s axe, plus an overhead shot of Mr Hahn’s deck. Might be getting a little ahead of myself here, could just be random music clips, but would be amped if Linkin Park made the bill…

Seriously wtf? can you morons PLEASE STOP VOTING ALREADY!!
And also, it doesn’t matter if votes were already cast and the counting started in July 2008. Hello? It doesn’t really matter at all if a million people voted for a particular band to come, the organisers would need to see if that band were actually available/willing to come! Do you think that Big Concerts calls up a band’s manager and says: “Oh, x number of people voted for y band to come to the Coca Cola Zero fest 2009 in South Africa, it’s schedules for such and such a date, see you there”?
After that rant, yes, it’s taken freaking forever this year and I think that most of us are getting more than a little fed up with the wait.

@matt you tosswaddler - it’s ponces like you who perpetuate the “oooh we’re south african, we’ll take whatEVER we can get” mindset. “Get with the times”?? Sheesh, maybe a year or 3 ago when panic/snow patrol were unique and not another one of a thousand similar sounding artists. Or hell, maybe back in ‘95 when Oasis were decent…
@Shamus - You might just be more of an ass than this Matt jock-knuckle. Besides, it’s got feckall to do with ‘metal’ or ‘death metal’ - this lineup assumes SA is bunch of Indie-lovers and ONLY Indie. The five listed bands are ALL Indie. SO, unless we’re an entire nation of skinny-jeans wearing, bad-hair having jackpipers, I really don’t think the lineup is representative at all. As for listening to ‘other music’, champ, anyone who listens to one genre and one genre alone is an idiot - a musical cyclops. Just ‘cos YOU do, don’t go projecting. Thanks.
But hey - you’ve already displayed a lack of taste, so I guess a lack of brains follows, yes?

Not impressed…hopefully the other bands to be announced bring a bit more to the show. Crumbs, if i must stand through Liam Gallagher whining away for an hour or so i’d rather chew off my own foot. Hopefully him and his bro get into another fight and we can actually see a bit of action…

@tim - First of all the fact that you think that Oasis is an Indie band just proves how ill informed you are, since they are regarded as an alternative rock band.
Secondly, this idea that you have that these skinny-jeans wearing people are indie lovers…wrong again! I agree it’s a messed up image they choose, but most of them are more into hard rock and metal.
Finally, who said it had anything to do with metal??? Wake up you chop! I am an avid fan of Tool, Muse, Evanescence, All That Remains…just to name a handful, as well as a good appreciation for jazz and blues.

Shamus | Jan 21, 2009 | Reply
@shamus - hmmm ok. But then do go back and have a look at what Britpop was termed when it first stuck it’s anorak-wearing head up in, oh, the early 90’s… it was referred to as Indie, a term many many fans embraced.
What’s that? Oh yes.
Kinda the same way “emo” used to refer to fans of punk bands like The Descendants and All, and not guyliner-wearing chumps.
But hey - you wanna go toe-to-toe on a musical trip? Let’s roll.

That was definitely Linkin Park but after announcing the line up this morning, I was seriously disappointed! Bullet for my Valentine is at least decent but not worth R600 just to see them. A Linkin Park, Disturbed, Slipknot, etc. would however make the difference!
Schur | Jan 21, 2009 | Reply
That was sooooo LP!!! not so interested in the bands so far, after attending every other fest coke has brought us, Everness (what ever their name is sucked balls….) 30 seconds were also bad……lets hope snow patrol are better live live than i think they will be, Oasis …um old? cool too….lets hope they sing congs we know!! (like the old wonderwall!!) any way im going to boycott this year if its not LINKIN PARK (as seen in the teaser)

HA! finally us normal music fans can enjoy a day in the sun listening to some rad bands with out all u metal/emo/pigeon-eating freaks invading our space. Guess u guys will hav to wait for next year to crawl out of your death-caves and expose your white pasty skin to sunlight and mingle with the rest of normality. For all those we wear other than black, see u rocking individuals on the 10th!

are there bands playing that haven’t been announced yet. 6 bands in 12 hours. looks like they’re all going to have full soundchecks. the v-fest attempt at releasing one band name a week flopped so let’s have the entire line-up NOW. at the moment i’m not interested… your marketing department need to do some research (or get a new one). LP, NIN, MM, RHCP. if you okes don’t know what that means then you’re in the wrong line of work.
madmandan | Jan 21, 2009 | Reply
NIИ… The Chili Peppers, Slipknot is cool, Rammstein and Manson too - but all of these bands are better suited to doing their own headlines. I’d pay R600 each to catch the above at their own shows. With an appropriate local opener or a touring international opening act of course… Isn’t there someone else out there who can make a festival of really deep music. no POP please. Leave pop for Virgin and Coke. like an SA READING FESTIVAL of sorts.

I think that the organisers have officially outdone themselves this year…..by organising probably the most unappealing lineup ever i cant believe this is actually happening……2007 great-2008 better…..2009 lost faith in rock concerts all together…..thank u coke fest for “the best rock bands in the world”….. oh can i just ask………….was there a group discount for the bands.

Is there going to be a normal cokefest or this zero thing all we’re getting. If that’s the case this is very worrying. The appeal is zero. None of the bands South Africans really want to see are actually playing.

1) The organizers had us vote nationally for who we’d like to see and then jut made up their own minds so that they can make money anyway without thinking of the people?
2) Not a single post on this wall has been replied to by any organizer or rep from Coke Zero Attendance Fest>?
We all have different music tastes, we all love different bands (Hail Slipknot) but at the end of the day, regardless of who plays we wont please them all. The only thing we can hope for is a rocking Festival. I don’t care who plays but to invite OASIS? MUTHAFnCKA PLEEEZ!
