Coke Fest 2010 Cancelled
By JBagley on Feb 15, 2010 in Announcements, Featured
For those that were wondering, Coke Fest 2010 has been canceled owing to the Soccer World Cup. From Entertainment Africa:
One of the highlights on the musical calendar for many fans, is the annual Coke Zero Fest which has seen acts like 30 Seconds To Mars, Snow Patrol and Oasis take to the stage.
But, due to other commitments, there will be no Coke Zero Fest for 2010. Although Coca-Cola SA is due to release an official statement within the week, Dionne Domyan from Penny Stein Promotions confirmed the news.
“The sad news is that there is no Coke Zero Fest this year as Coca-Cola are one of the major sponsors of the Fifa World Cup so all their energy (and resources) have been channeled to this event,” she confirmed exclusively to us.
“We are however hoping for an official statement from Coca-Cola in the next few days regarding this,” Domyan continued.
As the excitement of a possible concert started to flare up, many groups on Facebook have been created, in a bid to influence the organisers to bring out certain bands.
On the wall of the ‘COKE FEST 2010 – SOUTH AFRICA’ unofficial Facebook group, the top bands requested by fans range from Paramore, Linkin Park and Red Hot Chili Peppers, right through to Green Day, My Chemical Romance and controversial rockers Slipknot
So until 2011, when My Coke Fest will once again grace South African music fans.
Meh. Cokefest sucks anyway. They can shove it until they can get some decent acts.

I think it is so sad!
We have never had bands pulling out before last year.
Yet people are so negative.
Grow up, Coke Fest is the only festival that has great international bands playing on one stage. The rest of the year we are subjected to Kelly clarkson and the Killers. Pass.
Looking forward to a rocking Coke Fest 2011

Ah well, I was hoping that more alternative bands would be selected. My Coke Fest with Metallica headlining is still the best, even though we dehydrated! Commercial bands are always being brought in and we are never exposed to anything else.
There is nothing wrong with The Killers or Kelly Clarkson, if you into that sort of thing, but the rest of us would also like to have something to look forward too. We would also like our music tastes recognized.
There is a market for other alternative bands like Disturbed ect and they don’t need a whole festival to back them up to make sure you attract enough people.
Korn would have been awesome to bring out on their own with some of our awesome S.A talent to open up for them.
Knave, The Narrow – just to name a few.
Yes, we want a Festival with known international bands but we want a variety. Have an alternative band and have mellow a band ect build the crowd up to something spectacular!! But then don’t disappoint them with the next Festival and then the next and then cancel it all together.

We have so many other music festivals that cater for local bands and other musicians. Coke Fest is rock show! We need Rocking bands to play there. Previous Coke Fests have been awesome! Looking forward to Coke Fest 2011!

I can’t believe this bullshit the organisers are spinning us. That because of the Fifa World Cup their will be no Coke Fest 2010 due to Coca-Cola being a major sponsor for the World Cup. Coca-Cola is such a huge company you telling me they can’t multitask two events. They have the money to do it. Then we should cancel every event due to the World Cup. Oh by the way Coke Fest usually happens in April sometime. The Fifa World Cup is only in June!!! So I guess we just have to wait for the official statement and wait till 2011 please don’t have a major event then!!! I would really like to know which bands they were going to bring over before they pulled out.

Judging by CrapFest 2009 line-up we would have been subjected to bands like Abba, BZN and Bryan Adams anyway with a few unknown local acts sprinkled in between. Then Bryan Adams and Abba would pull out and the show would be changed from a beerless rugby stadium to a beerless miniature golf course.
We want to see big, currently well known, ROCK BANDS. Green Day, Chevelle, Foo Fighters, Radiohead, Linkin Park, Kings of Leon, Deftones, Placebo, Slipknot… anything bloody relevant really, even Breaking Benjamin, Pearl Jam or Dave Matthews would do.

Line Up FTW….Paramore,RHCP,Blink182,Linkin Park,Green Day,Jimmy Eat World, Attack Attack(Only coz it would be funny to see a Crabcore band in action),LOST PROPHETS!!!!
Really wish Coke would put up a vote/poll thing we could send suggestions to…and the popular vote is IT!
