Venue for Coca Cola Zero Fest has changed

All festival goer’s please take note that the venue’s for the 2009 Coca Cola Zero fest have changed!

The Johannesburg event is being held at the Riversands Farm in Fourways, Johannesburg and the Cape Town event is being held at the Lourensford Wine Estate in Somerset West.

The reason for the moving the Joburg event is due to the unpredictable weather that Joburg has been experiencing and in Cape Town, the road leading to the Ostrich farm will not have been completed by the 13 of April.

  1. Hey hey! I hope you guys have the traffic situation running smoothly!!!!!!! I work at Erinvale Hotel and Vergelegen recently had that Celine Dion concert thingy – it took me 4 hours to get home after work and 3 of those hours I did not moving.
Completely stoked to be there, at least the security is tight with only one road leading in to the venue.
All of the best for the show!

  3. Hahaha. “Unpredictable weather” and “incomplete roadworks” – yeah right. More likely the ticket sales were too low to fill the old venues, so they downgraded to smaller (and cheaper) venues. That’s what happens when you get your line-up wrong!

  4. guess what, its a week and a half before ticket sales and there are STILL golden circle tickets left. (usually they sell out a month or 2 before the show.) thus meaning we dont have to whine about the bands the finances/ revenue of the event speaks for itself. WELL DONE COKE!!!!

Wtf??! I was sceptical about going this year because of the crap line up, but I ended up buying my ticket just coz I wanna see Bullet. Now I’m totally discouraged! A great big thanx to the organizers of this year’s suckfest for making it the kakest Cokefest yet!

I used to be a fan, now I’m just disappointed and I want my money back!

  12. I am utterly disappointed with the fest this year. I have written 5FM and Coke(the only email I could get to comtact them) and nothing. The bands are not meant for the rockers like previous fests, nope, over 50s wants to come… my pop fan friend thinks the line up is worth going to see. Point is, this year is a MAYJOR disappointment and only done for money and different crowd pull. We showed them what we wanted and they just discarded it. Coke has not replied to my mail and neither has 5fm. So much for a rock fest. Pitty I am not going this year, not that they care…

They the only reason im going. And there are going to be loads of pissed off ppl when they arrive at ostrich farm to find… nothing!! They should have just kept the same venue as last year. And got much better bands!!! and about the joburg thing. I agree with Darius, they moving it cause of bad weather, but its still in joburg… makes no sense too me. Tickets arnt selling thats why there are so many different bundles.

  17. Is Riversand where they held the last Woodstock?

Is the band schedule available yet? ie what bands at what time exactly? Every year the crowds start arriving during and towards the end of the local bands. What are you planning to do this year? Hopefully, get there early and enjoy what they call the best bands in South Africa? Are they the best bands for the int line -up? Are they bands you ‘voted’ for? Foto na dans at an english pop festival?

Which bands slot will you use to visit the beer tents and the toilet?

    Interested to hear your thoughts…

  18. ok ok ok… so they have moved the venue and the line-up isnt as exciting as other years… I recall a lot of people that I know of last year not being that keen on Muse and going more for Korn and Muse ended up stealing the show. Give the other bands a chance, stay positive and have a party.

THIS IS NOT A APRIL FOOLS JOKE

    COCA-COLA ZERO FEST 2009

Moves Jozi Venue to RIVERSANDS FARM, Fourways due to unpredictable weather

Friday, 27 March 2009 – COCA-COLA ZERO FEST 2009 in association with 5FM, which is set to rock Joburg on Friday, 10 April will be moving to the lush green hills of Riversands in Fourways, Johannesburg . The move comes as a consequence of extensive rain that Gauteng has experienced in recent weeks. Moving the Johannesburg venue allows organizers to better accommodate the needs of this massive.

Festival-goers who have already purchased tickets do not need to change their tickets as these will be accepted at RIVERSANDS FARM. The venue will be open from 7am, the festival site will open at 10:30am and parking will be available on-site. Fans are strongly advised to get there early to avoid traffic congestion and queues.

  21. I think everyone is too negative. Coke is bringing LIVE MUSIC to our country. I know a lot of people dont agree with the line-up, but we are an insignificant little third world place at the @ss end of Africa. Coke have managed to get the buy-in from a bunch of international bands (again) to come here and perform for us, and everyone has sung along to at least ONE of the songs from at least ONE of the bands at one point in their lives.

I am a hard rock fan and I am stoked that Bullet is coming. The festival is what you make it – next year Coke will bring the bands you want, but for now, feel privelaged that these guys have put a lot of effort into bringing some of us really cool bands. I understand the venue change too as there are WHOLE roads in Alberton that have been washed away due to the rains.

I have seen Oasis live in London, and I have seen Snow Patrol and they are awesome!

I am going just for the fun of it, to be merry with friends, sing along to naffy songs and have a blast!

  32. Will there be a line up of which bands play at what time. Some people will probably be going for a few or just one specific band and would like to know what time to be where instead of arriving too early only to have their band play so much later in the day or night.

If people are so bummed and pissed about this year’s line up, there is still next year. Coke worked hard to cater to different people for different rock genres and they don’t deserve shit for that (though I am not so excited about the venue change in Joburg). I’m mainly going for Panic at the Disco but I’m going to rock on with the other bands too

  50. @ Matt

Firstly, I have not come here to moan and complain, i simply came onto this website and subsequently found out that the venue has changed and merely expressed my opinion..no wait scratch that…i merely made a comment about something which is fairly inconvenient. That does not at all give you the right to speak to people in the manner that you have spoken to me..what gives you the right to call me a…what was it…oh yes, a “lazy cheap bum” and a “12 year old brat”?????

Just provide you with a little bit of information, I have been to every single coke fest since it began, and I have loved every one of them, this year has a bunch of my favourite bands and I cannot wait for the concert…in fact i even bought my ticket before i knew what bands were announced. I am sure that making a comment about them moving the venue is hardly illegal…

I agree that people should not complain about the lineup and what not, coke do a great job of bringing international acts to South Africa, and just because a few people dont like them doesnt mean that this is going to be any worse than the previous years….

Don’t attempt to belittle others for expressing an opinion or making a statement!

    Cassette
    Zebra & Giraffe

    Red Jumpsuit Apparatus

    Aking

    Red Jumpsuit Apparatus
    Bullet for my Valentine

Cab services are fckng expensive and its money I dont have right now. Next time they should consider their fans who live in the Southern suburbs and city central. Its unfair to us! And for me to fork out loads and loads of cash for a kakfest is ridiculous! I’m deeply disapointed, but I’m gonna try and make the best of it. They better do something to spice it up and make this year’s fest memorably brilliant!

  64. Regarding ticket prices for the Cokefest:

Ticket prices for the SA vs Aus Cricket are about R150, we get to watch cricket every couple months.
Tickets for the SA vs British Lions are over R1000 each.
FFS, tickets to watch a Premier League Football match are about R400 and thats on every week.

To pay between R400 & R600 for a once-a-year concert where we get to bands on the level of Metallica, Oasis & Korn is really peanuts in comparison. Hell, I’d pay that once a month.

You have to love the fact that half the people complaining about the line up are those little kids who never got along with anyone at school and need some mindless screaming to get them by in their mundane and boring lives. Tell me in my state of abject stupidity why coke (who by the way is a major corporation and so focuses on making money) should cater to a select group of individuals who can’t even fill up tempos. Why should they bring metal shit like tool, a perfect circle, slipknot and bullet? Be glad they got one shit band to placate you. Stop complaining. You are just one little bleating consumer who can’t do shit. If you felt so strong about the bands being bad go burn your tickets or maybe hand them to someone with taste. I say congratulations to coke, yes well done on poleasing the majority, let the little kids in black t shirts and spikes go cry. They like it that way. They will write a poem. Oh yes. What if i do work for coke? Yes? What then? You people are ridiculous. Read a book.

Thankfully, by the time they perform I will be drunk enough to sing along.

I notice this year’s line up includes all new bands (except Oasis of course) and its the first time they’ve done that with Coke fest. In previous yers we had LEGENDS like Staind, Chris Cornel, Metallica, Evanescence. Even 3 Doors Down and Hoobastank, bands that have been on the scene for years and have attaind popularity in S.A. Most of my friends know 2 or 3 Panic songs, 2 Snow Patrol songs, 2 Red Jumpsuit songs. Oh well, from a different perspective, perhaps this will launch their popularity in our country and help them gain fans!

I’m looking forward to Coke Zero Fest 2009! I may not be as excited as I was with previous fests, but I got my tickets and I’m heading off to Somerset West on Monday! :)

  78. Sorry, I meant to say relatively new bands. If you look at it like this:

    BFMV- about 8 years
    RJA- about 6 years
    PATD- about 4 years
    Snow Patrol- about 6 years

    In comparison to

    Staind- About 14 years
    Evanescence- About 14 years
    Chris Cornel- About 25 years

Just a lil info. Looks like Coke is trying something new. They shouldve had more legends on a line up with new bands, instead of a bunch of legends together and then a bunch of new bands together. Not too smart! Oh well, probably depends on the bands schedules too I guess.

  91. Rofl At Each and everyone thats not comming to Cokefest coz 2 bands pulled out!! This Is SOOOOOOO sad, btw U people can only blame bullet and red jumpsuit coz they aparently have better things to do than coming to fans in south africa!!! so stop blaming Coke Fest end open your eyes. Besides i used to like bullet, personly i think they are a bunch of looosers coz they pulled out 2 days befor the show! BULLET fail! so does red jumpsuit!

  92. Major fail on Bullet’s and RJA’s part.
If Bullet are complaining about studio time, they could have said something earlier as studios are normally booked at least a month or so before you use it. So they could have notified us earlier.

@WTF, if you’re going to waste your time being negative to the people who are looking forward to attending the festival and you won’t because you have ‘much better taste in music’ than them, why don’t you rather spend those supposed precious hours you sit in front of the computer doing something better instead? Just maybe?

  95. im a lil confused as to how every third person at the fest had a coke fest tshirt on with the band names except bfmv and rja – so my question is if the bands only cancelled two days b4 the concert howd they manage to make that many tshirts ?

    confused | Apr 13, 2009 | Reply

  96. Hmmm. Confused has a point. There’s no way they could’ve reprinted so quickly. They must’ve cancelled much earlier.

    WTF | Apr 13, 2009 | Reply

  97. Interesting point you have there. I have to admit, that I have my suspisions around the cancellations 2 days before the time. I recon, Big Concerts have been sitting on this news a while… They are Sh!tt!ng us, think rockers are stupid… yeah, right… I miss the Coke Fest, but I am not sorry for not going. It was suppose to be a rock fest and they felt they needed another type of crowd pull, well 55000 ppl, last year??? They have underestimated us. Pitty, we are such a funky bunch… and to the anty rockers… Go to church and get a life! I’ll be sitting in the corner… watching you… with my coffin clothes on!
