We are back!
By JBagley on Feb 15, 2009 in Announcements, Featured
After last weeks fiasco with the closing down of mycoke.co.za, I had so many people come out in support of me and the blog. All the emails, comments, tweets and phonecalls were really testament to the number of music fans out there. So after chatting to my partner who helped start mycoke.co.za way back in 2007, we came up with a plan. Why not move the blog, redirect all the traffic, remove all the offending logos and trademarks, add a word between “The” and “My Coke Fest Blog” and get the blog up and running again!

Obviously I hadn’t updated any details about the Coke Fest while everything was in “closing down” mode, but I’ll get right into it and make sure all the details of the event are updated ASAP! If there is anything you think I have missed, let me know.
Keep the music alive!
Well done!!!

Hey bro.
You don’t think that the word Coke is going to get you in the poo? Also, technically the event is called Coke(or Coca-Cola)Zero Fest.
I’d maybe look at making it “CZ Fest” or something just to remove all chance of getting another slap on the wrist.
Use it, don’t use it

Hey Rich, thanks for the advice. I’ll think about it.

And I agree with revamping the line-up. Or they might as well call it the MCQP fest!
I ain’t going, and neither should you…

Congrats Jason, at least now we can stay informed. Please dont use the “C” word because they might get you on this one as well. Would not want you get into trouble AGAIN. Why not just call it “Unofficial Rock fest blog”.

I love this. No ways, keep the name, keep the new logo. Coke cannot own the word “coke” as hard as they try.
coke
Slang.
noun 1. cocaine.
verb (used with object) 2. to affect with a narcotic drug, esp. with cocaine (usually fol. by up or out).
Origin:
1905–10, Americanism; short for cocaine.
SheBee | Feb 16, 2009 | Reply
Er… the point to that was that there was a meaning behind the word. It’s not just a slang version of Coca-Cola company.
GO JASON!
/end.

Yeah!! Damn the man!! Fight the power!! Let’s unite and all start drinkin P&P No Name Cola and start our own fest called the No Name fest. Well done J,
That’s Internet.
Although, a century ago the big gents from Hilton Hotels traveled to New Zealand to offer the owner of the Black Ball Hilton a nice little amount to change his name since it wasn’t quite up to the Hilton Standards. The owner took the generous offer and said he’d change the name. Hilton Management left for England again.
The new name of the hotel?
“Formerly named: The Black Ball Hilton”

without giving any reason
V@mp | Mar 2, 2009 | Reply
It would be kak funny if they canceld SA tour !
bent | Mar 2, 2009 | Reply
They were actually banned from playing there…
The article is taken from yahoonews (http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20090302/music_nm/us_oasis_china;_ylt=An4roslyIN3RvK9fl5AqIilxFb8C)
“LONDON (Reuters) – British rock band Oasis said on Monday it was “bewildered” by China’s decision to cancel two concerts scheduled to take place on the mainland next month.
The group had expected to play in Beijing on April 3 and Shanghai on April 5.
“Representatives from the Chinese government have revoked the performance licenses already issued for the band and ordered their shows in both Beijing and Shanghai to be immediately canceled,” Oasis said in a statement.
“The Chinese authorities’ action in cancelling these shows marks a reversal of their decision regarding the band which has left both Oasis and the promoters bewildered.”
The statement added that according to the shows’ promoters, the concerts were called off when Chinese authorities discovered band member Noel Gallagher had appeared at a “Free Tibet” benefit concert in the United States in 1997.
As a result the government “deemed that the band are … unsuitable to perform to their fans in the Chinese Republic.
“Oasis are extremely disappointed that they are now being prevented from undertaking their planned tour of mainland China and hope that the powers that be within China will reconsider their decision and allow the band to perform.”
The rest of the southeast Asian leg of the Oasis tour will go ahead as planned, including a Hong Kong gig on April 7.
Last year China said it would tighten controls over foreign singers after Icelandic pop star Bjork shouted “Tibet! Tibet!” at a Shanghai concert.
China has ruled Tibet with an iron fist since People’s Liberation Army troops marched into the Himalayan region in 1950 and denounces any challenge to its authority.
Despite hosting a raft of high-profile acts in recent years, including the Rolling Stones, China takes pains to ensure concerts are politically correct.
Artists are forbidden to perform content that would harm “national unity” or “stir up resentment” and promoters are asked to submit set-lists and lyric sheets for approval.

Still so negative I see! Yet nothing has been accomplished by the negative comments! Listen to 5fm much? The majority of South Africans enjoy bands like Snow Patrol; Panic at the Disco, Cassette, The dirty Skirts etc- these bands and their latest releases are on almost every single current music chart in South Africa at the moment!!! This is what the people who listen to commercial radio stations want to see:) When Fall Out Boy came to South Africa there were over 17 000 people that attended the concert (just for them)!!! Although some of you might think that Coke is going down and nobody wants to go I’m sure you’ll be proved wrong when the time comes:)I’m sure Coke has done their research-don’t you worry your pretty little heads:) You win some you lose some now get over it:) Or like me, embrace it and enjoy the fact that some of the world’s best known bands are actually interested in coming to South Africa! YOU might not like it but for every one person that does not attend this year I’m sure you will replaced by about 10 that did not go the last three years:)

To all of you people that cannot see beyond your narrow minded one dimensional view on music festivals here is a thought that will haunt you for quite sometime…
No support equals no future for an international rock festival in SA. WAKE UP and smell the roses, Coke is the only brand still willing to put big money behind rock music in SA, the more you diss them the bigger the chance that you will never see big rock acts in SA ever again. Mark my words, all of this criticism will mean no festival next year or any year for that matter… enjoy playing Counterstrike every weekend for the rest of your life.
JT | Mar 12, 2009 | Reply
@JT – “No support equals no future for an international rock festival in SA” – no support equals no kak “rock festival” like this year’s cock fest (and I’m sorry, but you can’t call that a “rock festival”) – I’m so sorry for voicing my opinion by economic means.
Next you’ll probably argue that we should all vote for a certain currently governing party because if we don’t, we won’t have democracy anymore.
Get a life loser – free market = supply and demand rules. They supply shit, we won’t buy it.
WTF | Mar 12, 2009 | Reply
@WTF – Well aren’t you just the clever one preaching free market economics, supply and demand and product mix… like you would know anything about the music industry. Let me teach you something boy:
we’re not part of Europe, Australasia or The Americas and our currency is the Rand, not the EURO, DOLLAR OR POUND STERLING. Contrary to popular believe we are far away from everything else and bands don’t just pop in for the night and play Harare and Lusaka earning top dollar while they are at it. Getting bands to SA is an impossible task as artist fees are dollar based and the travel expenses are significantly higher that doing a trip to Europe – then there are dic$heads like you who sit and complain about ticket prices and not being able to see Slipknot run around in masks – here is a thought, why don’t you try and see your favourite band somewhere in Europe? After you’ve paid your airticket, hotels and if you can even get a ticket, let me know how that works for you versus the R375 which gets 5 amazing international artists in your own backyard. If you somehow disagree that any of these bands are worth the money, then perhaps you should cut yourself just to make sure that you are actually part of this world as the facts speak for itself….
Oasis
- Voted Best British Band by NME 09
- 7th largest tour in the world currently
- Co-headlining Roskilde Festival (under the top 10 biggest festivals in the world).
Snow Patrol
- Have sold 120,000 albums in SA (which is double what KORN have sold in SA over their entire catalogue)
- 3 nights at O2 Arena sold out
- Co-headlining V Festival Australia
- Headlining T in the Park (under the top 10 biggest festivals in the world)
Bullet for my Valentine
- Playing at the following festivals:
* Groezrock Festival, Belgium
* Hammerfest, UK
* Rockstar Energy Mayhem Festival, CA
* Wacken Open Air Festival, Germany
So tell me dic$head, seeing that you are such an expert and the authority on music, why would all of these festivals book these bands to play, why would all of those people attending these festivals pay top dollar to see them BUT YOU SOMEHOW BELIEVE THAT THIS LINE-UP SUCKS?
I can’t stand idiots like you, maybe i should put it in an equation so that you can also understand: if you don’t like the music = don’t buy a ticket = shut the fu$k up
